What a goofy little movie this is. Pretty sure I would have skipped it if you guys weren't covering it on the show. And based on the first ten minutes, I wasn't sure I was going to make it through the whole thing. But it won me over, almost entirely on the charm of Elle Fanning (the little monkey creature was cute too). I'm with Sonny that the original Predator is a perfect film for what it wants to be. But it's also a film that seemed to require no further elaboration, and I've always been fairly mystified that so many people are convinced it's such a great frame to build a franchise on. But if they're going to keep making them, they may as well make them like this. Can't say I'm ever going to give it much thought in the future, but it was an amusing way to spend 110 or so minutes on a gloomy Sunday evening.
The AI actress thing seems so narrow-minded to me. We want to be ahead and jump on this revolutionary technology, and yet, we also just want to do the exact same thing that we are already doing ... that's not how revolutionary technologies work!
I do think Peter is exactly right, and in the short-to-medium future, we'll see a lot of user-generated fan-fic-style movies/shows. We can probably look to Roblox to get an idea of what such a user-generated future looks like. It's not for everyone, it's definitely not the highest-quality content out there, but it is wildly popular, and I guess, it helps some kids exercise creative muscles... plus pedophiles, of course, can't forget about pedophiles.
I haven’t seen this yet but every time we saw a trailer for it during the World Series my wife said, “it looks like a video game.’’
Looks like a video game and is structured like a video game! (The third act looks less game-y.)
She’s not wrong!

There will be abuses, unfortunately. But a lot of what we'll see, I suspect, will look like gen-AI personalized versions of the vertical-video, super-cheap microdrama soaps that are becoming more and more popular, per: https://theankler.com/p/the-art-of-hooking-audiences-execs?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
I think this is right AND is our first AI agreement.
When I think of Tilly, I think of the movie Her. I guess that’s the new world we’re living in.
If Fanning has a Tina Fey quality, maybe the next sequel will be Predator:30 Rock, co-starring Alec Baldwin as the Yautja.
(Bonus points will be awarded if the Baldwin character breaks into a hearty rendition of "The Brother of Yautja")
(For the record I think this comparison is slightly off, but I am now imagining Predator: Cheers, Predator: Friends, Predator: Parks and Recreation)
